A PACIFIC-INSPIRED BAR & DINING SPACE - Restaurant Interior Design Kirra

Located just steps from the sand at Kirra Beach, St Helens is the passion project of Pacific Northwest native and Head Chef Jess Hayes. While the initial launch focused on the food, the next phase called for a full interior reimagining, one that would draw people in, reflect Jess’s roots, and enhance the coastal experience. With a modest budget and big vision, Elizabeth May Design layered warmth, texture, and personality into the space to create a destination that now feels as curated as the menu.

Earthy Texture on a Thoughtful Budget

We worked with existing materials and layered in warmth using terracotta-toned tiles, soft furnishings, and natural textures. Faux hanging plants and black timber planters were added to bring softness and life without overwhelming the stunning beachfront location.

Locally Inspired Layers

The deep-toned Resene Diesel wall colour framed the open kitchen beautifully, while a custom mural by local artist Mike Ambrose introduced personality and story. The mural now anchors the space and enhances its visual identity.

A Bar That Draws You In

To give the bar presence, a new overhead rack was installed to allow for future styling. Updated woven bar stools and layered accessories brought depth and contrast, turning a once-quiet corner into the heart of the venue.
