A CALIFORNIAN BUNGALOW TRANSFORMED WITH WARMTH & CHARACTER - Interior Design Manly
This relaxed coastal home is a reimagined Californian Bungalow, where an unused basement was transformed into a multi-functional living space, complete with a games room, guest bedroom, laundry, and bathroom. Working closely with owners Sarah and Chris, the project balanced new and original elements, preserving the home’s charm while introducing layered, earthy finishes and thoughtful extensions across both levels.
Grounded Materials, Natural Light
The design blends polished concrete, original brickwork, and lime-washed pine timber floors for a tactile, grounded feel. A long reeded glass window over the stairwell adds soft natural light while maintaining privacy. A subtle but impactful architectural gesture.
Spaces That Evolve With You
The ground floor was extended to create an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area flowing out to an alfresco BBQ zone. The new kitchen is the heart of the home. Anchored by a long Caesar-stone island bench, Birch Plywood cabinetry, and refined detailing throughout.
Personal, Playful Styling
From Academy Tiles to IN-TERIA handles and layered accessories, every detail reflects the clients’ easygoing style. Sarah and Chris’s art collection brings joyful colour to the neutral base, completing a home that feels lived-in, honest, and deeply personal.
